Alberta – My Photography Journey!

Lesley Carter from Bucket List Publications is travelling to Alberta later this week. She recently put out a call for people to blog about their travels to this incredible province. I will do one better!

I have lived here for 13 years and had a blast last night digging up some of my favourite photos of travels with my wife and sons.

I can still remember the day that I saw the mountains for the first time as a kid. I was truly in awe of all that the Rockies had to offer.

Now as an adult, we are so lucky to have this beauty right in our own backyard (well almost, it is still a bit of a drive).

I hope you enjoy looking at our pictures as much as I did putting them together!

Blogging Update – My 300th Post!

Hey Everyone!

Just a quick note to say thanks for following my on this blogging journey that is quickly approaching 2 years (wow times flies by)!

I have kept you updated on important milestone that I reached with my blog, and I have another one to share today.

Over the weekend, I published my 300th post!

Or as I like to say, I TOOK ACTION 300 times!

I recently backed up all of my posts and took count. Over 200 of those were original content. When I started out, I thought I could only write about like 8 things 🙂

All joking aside, I am very proud of this accomplishment and am looking forward to many more years of blogging and helping others.

One quick bit of advice if you are just getting started on a blog, or are in a bit of a “writing rut”

Don’t put pressure on yourself! Be open to creativity and be ready to take notes at a moment’s notice when ideas pop in to your head.

I have also gotten in to the habit of:

  • Reblogging other blogger’s content
  • Posting videos or links to cool stuff I find online
  • Reposting my earlier writing every 6-8 months

Take the pressure off, and just have fun! Get in the habit of supporting others too, and not just feel obligated to come up with new material .

Thanks again for your support!

It means the world to me..

My Blogging Story – The 1st 100 Readers!

Stanford Smith from recently put out a request to his readers to share a story. He wanted people to write about how they gained the first 100 readers on their blog. I was very excited to take part. You can see my submission here:

I was :

  • scared
  • apprehensive
  • skeptical
  • overwhelmed
  • nervous

… as I embarked on the first part of my blogging journey! But in January 2012 I stopped thinking about it and finally TOOK ACTION!

I did not think anyone would care what I would have to say. I did not think I would get any comments. I closed my eyes and hoped for at least a few views of my first post.

From the moment that I got my first comment (from somebody other than a family member or close friend) I WAS HOOKED!

I still remember the feeling that came over me when I received an email from a reader thanking me for writing a post. It had affected them in a positive way.

Once again, you can check out my story at:

There is a method to the madness though. Please read my story, others, and what the heck, take 10 minutes and share your story for Stanford too. If you are just starting out, there should be great ideas to implement ASAP!

  • If you have any helpful blogging resources that got the ball rolling, or keep you motivated on a regular basis, would love if you commented below!

Pushing Social is one of my favourites, but I would love to hear what else is out there.

Have an incredible day!

Check Out Pat Flynn’s “Smart Passive Income”

At some point or another, most people online have thought about the “make money while you sleep” business model. I mean, who wouldn’t want to wake up in the morning and find out that they made money over night? I sure would.

I have been fortunate to follow some of the biggest names in the industry over the last three years:

  • Eben Pagan
  • Frank Kern
  • Brendan Burchard
  • Gary Vaynerchuk
  • Russell Brunson
  • Jeff Walker

I could go on and on. I recently stumbled upon Pat Flynn from the website “Smart Passive Income”. He is a breath of fresh air in a very crowded internet marketing space.

He lost his job several years ago and decided that he could make a go of it working online with a passive income model. He has worked his butt off to get where he is, and is very open about how much income he makes .

What drew me to him was his podcast. Many episodes have helped me immensely over the past couple of weeks, and I thoroughly enjoyed the episodes featuring another guy “killing it” named Lewis Howes.

Pat’s knowledge and passion for everything from YouTube, podcasting, blogging and networking has been truly inspiring.

I could ramble all day. Just stop by and find out how you can enhance your current business model (or get started) with some recurring income.

Oh yeah, you can check him out on Facebook too at  (pretty slick hey?)

The Truth Does’t Have To Hurt!

For the first time in 18 months, I am having a bit of trouble keeping up with my blog. I still love writing, I still love corresponding with my network, and I still love influencing people’s lives in positive ways.

But the truth is…..

I am having more trouble committing the time to it.

  • The demands of my new job working out of an office (and not at home) are much greater
  • We have a new little one at home which takes up more of my time
  • I am exercising more now than I did over the winter. Ok I did not exercise at all over the winter!
  • Our short summer has started

But you know what? I am still moving forward.

  • I am still doing a little bit every day (I still write or do social media every day)
  • I still respond to every person that corresponds with me via social media and my blog
  • I still love the feeling of people taking something positive from one of my blog posts
  • I still love the feeling of putting myself out there and seeing what people think

If you are thinking of giving up whatever your blogging and online goals are …. DON’T

Life is not easy, and living day-to-day can certainly get in the way of other “fun stuff”. But giving up will certainly not put more “fun stuff” in your life.

When I first got online in a big way over three years ago, I was certain that I had to have the next big idea to be successful. What I soon realized after following some of the biggest names in internet marketing, sales & leadership is it does not have to be that way at all.

The truth is…..

It is all about showing up on a regular basis! And corresponding with your network. It is not about you. Make it all about them.

If you are thinking about packing it in today, and going back to your “regular life” take a deep breath and keep plugging away.

Remember how much fun you had when you first started your online journey?

Exactly… now go get ’em!

And My Numbers Are…….

24136, 1784, 1109, 482, 310, 292

In other words..

24,136 blog views
1,784 Twitter followers
1,109 LinkedIn connections
482 blog followers
310 Facebook fan page “likes”
292 Google+ connections have me in their circles

I was hesitant at first to go public with some of these figures, but I wanted to prove a point. …

Anyone can do this!

I never thought I had the ability to write and make such deep meaningful connections online via social media. The most followers, connections, “likes” or blog views does not mean you win – not even close. I have not monetized anything yet, and I am fine with that. It will come with time. I am in the process of planning next steps and that is very exciting!

  • I grabbed a pen and started creating content less than 3 years ago. My blog is only in its 16th month
  • I became fully engaged on several popular social media sites two and a half years ago. And by fully engaged I mean doing much more than just broadcasting content! I listen to my network, comment every time somebody reaches out to me, and show up every day
  • Anyone can do this. If I can, you can too! But you have to fall in love with it to be able to commit the time. I promise you there are no shortcuts to success with this type of networking. The world does not owe you anything, remember that!
  • Be opportunistic. Block off time when you can; but even 5-15 minutes when time permits moves things forward. Also be opportunistic about content. Anything can become a blog post.  Just put it out there, you never know who might like it!

When I wrote down these numbers the other day I must admit I was quite proud! I have worked incredibly hard, and lost precious sleep especially with a new little one in our home, but every second of it has been well worth it.

Wanna know why?

When somebody takes the time to reach out and says how much the content has meant to them, that means everything to me!

I truly feel like I am just getting started. Thanks for coming along for the ride! Hang on this is going to be fun….

Belated Happy New Year and a Huge Shout Out!

Hey there everyone!

Just a quick note to say Happy New Year! All the best for a health, happy and prosperous 2013.

Starting a blog in 2012 was an absolute pleasure, and I am striving for bigger and better things in the coming months.

Speaking of this blog, I noticed something very cool on my blog in December, and just had to give a huge shout out to one of my followers.

Her name is Tina Del Buono and you can follow her awesome blog called Practical Practice Management at:

When I started to write close to three years ago, I remember exactly where I was when I said to myself, “I wonder if anyone will care about what I have to say?” In that moment of uncertainty, it would have been easy to return to my “regularly scheduled life” and just put the pen down. But I kept moving forward, a little bit every day, with the hope that I would create a bit of a following when I launched my blog.

I have been incredibly fortunate that people like what I am doing, and many people comment.

And then there is Tina. After I noticed some statistics in early December, I was hoping that she would hit a very special milestone with my blog before year’s end. And she did!

She has taken the time to make 100 COMMENTS on my blog!

I can not thank her enough for helping make my blog a success with her insightful comments and support of my work in general. I am touched when anyone takes the time to correspond with me in any way, but 100 times in 11 months was just an incredible accomplishment!

I Disappeared For A Bit – But I Had A Good Excuse!

I pride myself on showing up at my blog as often as possible. Things got a little “busy” over the past couple of weeks. I had a pretty good excuse for disappearing for a while!

  • I would like to introduce Rowan Gray Knisley Mushey
  • Our 2nd son was born on Dec 5th at 6:41 pm
  • He weighed 10 lbs, 2 oz.
  • He was 22 inches long.

I have attached a link to some pictures if you would like to have a peak:

My wife is a true inspiration, and Elliot is a very proud big brother.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!
