Saturday Music Memories – Lovin’ The Lifehouse

I have loved Lifehouse since they broke on to the mainstream music scene in 2001 with the smash hit “Hanging By A Moment”.

They have had some ups and downs in their career since then, but I have never stopped following. Jason Wade has one of those voices that keeps you wanting more. The past couple of years they have skyrocketed back in to the spotlight and I could not be happier.

I have not seen them in concert yet, but I am patiently waiting until next time they come through my town.

I have always loved their acoustic work, and this version of “Halfway Gone” is no exception!

Enjoy this awesome track and have a fantastic weekend!

Saturday Music Memories – American Woman and My Hometown

I am from Winnipeg, Canada and love where I grew up. Every time I hear this week’s “Saturday Music Memory” I just feel darn proud!

Many people don’t realize that Winnipeg was a music factory in the 70’s, and has continued to put out great acts over the years. Do you remember that classic rock gem called American Woman? The Guess Who put Winnipeg on the map in 1970 when this song reached number 1!

You may recognize the names of Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman specifically. I have attached The Guess Who’s Wikipedia page for more information.

Their history of success, break-ups, reunions, and changes are quite remarkable.

Burton Cummings has had a very successful solo career, while Randy Bachman went on to form BTO (Bachman-Turner Overdrive) in the mid 70’s. They had many hits, including the very popular “Taking Care of Business”.

But these boys have always been better together than apart in my opinion.  I have attached a live 9+ minute jam of American Woman from Burton Cummings’ YouTube Channel.

The legendary Neil Young is also from Winnipeg, among others. I included a link highlighting a history of music in my hometown!

Saturday Music Memories – FANTASTIC Cover…

I was finishing high school in the early 90’s when grunge exploded. Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots and Alice In Chains hit the music scene and caused quite a stir. They are still some of my favourite bands today!

I have always been a huge fan of Alice In Chains and was saddened by the loss of their lead singer Layne Staley many years ago.

The band has reunited with a new singer, and is sounding fantastic once again.

I stumbled across this acoustic gem of Nutshell by Monicka Hove many months ago and listen to it often. Her voice is very memorable and I think she does a remarkable job.

You can check out her music at: http://www.youtube.com/monhove or https://www.facebook.com/monhove

Have a great weekend!

Saturday Music Memories – Are You Feeling Better Now?

If I need a kick in the pants, a couple doses of this song at high volume seems to do the trick. I have loved Ed Roland and the gang from Collective Soul for close to 20 years, and their energy on stage is impressive.

I have had the pleasure of seeing them live on a handful of occasions and they never disappoint!

Enjoy this live version of their hit “Better Now” with the Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Have an AWESOME weekend…

Saturday Music Memories – Let’s Have some “Fun”!

I must admit that I am not as up to speed as I should be on the current hot bands. The Grammy’s were an eye opener for me recently that I am missing out on some cool new bands. Take “Fun” for example. I mean, their name is “Fun”! How great is that?

Over 172 million people have viewed this video for “We Are Young”.

So your take away from “Fun” this weekend is have fun, laugh, and enjoy every minute.

Keep Smiling!

Saturday Music Memories – Bruno Just Gets It!

If you follow popular music you will know who Bruno Mars is. His music is catchy and he leaves it all on the stage during his live performances. That is something that I admire greatly.

His recent collaboration with Sting at the Grammys was spectacular. You can hit YouTube to see that live clip.

Bruno’s smash hit “Locked Out Of Heaven” has almost 100,000,000 views. Check it out here and have an awesome weekend!

Saturday Music Memories – Shinedown Strips It Down!

Unfortunately I don’t have any concert memories of Shinedown yet, but certainly hope to see them in the next couple of years.

Their sound is quite diverse and can get rockin’.

But as many of you know by now, I have a soft spot for live acoustic versions. They absolutely “kill it” with a fantastic acoustic version of their hit single “Unity”!

Give this a “spin” on a screen of your choice and have a wonderful weekend 🙂

Saturday Music Memories – If Everyone Cared

There does not seem to be any grey area with respect to Nickelback. Either you love them, or you well… don’t love them. They grew up within 3 hours of where I live in Edmonton and are very popular around here. Their live shows are incredible. I am a simple guy from the Prairies in Canada –  If the music rocks and a few fireworks are set off, that is a good night out for me.

Sometimes it appears like Chad Kroeger is just trying to pump out hit singles. But if you can, why the heck wouldn’t you?

If you got all the haters under oath, I suspect that they would trade places with him at a moment’s notice, if they could live their dreams and be on stage for even one night!

They are Canadian, we love them, and this song has a great social message. Many people don’t know that they can “slow things down” from time to time, and this is one of my favourite songs.

Happy Saturday everyone…

Saturday Music Memories – This Is Where It Is At!

Def Leppard is one of my favourite classic rock bands. Many of my favourite songs are NOT the hits! But this one is, and the live acoustic version is a beauty!

Have a wonderful Saturday….

Saturday Music Memories – A “Canadian Reinvention”

Dallas Smith is the lead singer for one of my favourite Canadian bands of the last decade – Default. I have had the pleasure of meeting  him on at least three occasions, because a good friend of mine worked for the band throughout the years.

Last year, Dallas decided to change it up, and release a country/rock cd. Well he did not miss a beat as he stepped in to a new genre of music! His latest single, “Jumped Right In”, just hit #4 on the Canadian Country charts.

An incredible accomplishment to say the least!

Have a listen and enjoy your weekend!
